My expectations for this course were to learn online newsroom management and new media online publishing techniques. The online newsroom management was not part of the course at all.
Learning new media online publishing techniques was the primary focus of the course and learning how to develop a distribution plan that included social media promotional posts was an essential part of the coursework.
The content that I enjoyed the most was meeting and interviewing people whose families experienced tragedy during the time of the Tulsa race massacre. I learned a lot from their stories and everyone was so very kind.
I wish I had the time to gather more information and to get other interviews. Each interview presented more history and more insightful stories and experiences. With additional time, I believe the story would have been more compelling and also would have revealed other story angles.
This course, like all of the other courses, prepared me for my career through the assignment. All assignments are matched to the type of work that professional journalists do everyday. So producing, writing, shooting and editing, managing online content and social media accounts are all lessons that prepared me to work in the industry.
